Michael is Lucid's cofounder and President. A LEED Accredited Professional, he has over ten years of experience with metering, building automation, energy management, and data access policy. Prior to Lucid, Michael specialized in Ecological Footprint applications for governments, non-profits, and corporations with Global Footprint Network. Michael holds a BA with highest honors in Environmental Studies from Oberlin College.
Vladi is Lucid's cofounder and CEO, serving in a previous position as CTO. Vladi co-developed Building Dashboard and managed Lucid's product and engineering teams, and laid the groundwork for BuildingOS. A recipient of prestigious national and international awards, including from the U.S. EPA and Clean Tech Open, Vladi has multiple publications in the field and has delivered many distinguished presentations, including TEDx. Prior to Lucid, he helped pioneer groundbreaking research in monitoring and display systems and real-time feedback technology. Vladi holds a BA with high honors in Environmental Studies and Computer Science from Oberlin College.
Gavin is Lucid's cofounder and Chief Creative Officer, serving in a previous position as Creative Director. His artistic approach underpins BuildingOS and Building Dashboard, from product development to marketing. His work has been widely featured in leading design, green building, and technology publications, including The New York Times, Make Magazine, and Wired. Prior to Lucid, he designed novel UIs for visualizing real-time performance in the acclaimed A.J. Lewis Center in Oberlin, Ohio. A recipient of the Adobe MAX Award and International Green Award, Gavin holds a BA in Environmental Studies from Oberlin College.
John Petersen is Lucid's cofounder, Associate Professor of Environmental Studies and Biology at Oberlin College, and Director of Oberlin’s Environmental Studies Program. A systems ecologist by training, Dr. Petersen's research focuses on quantifying flows of energy, cycles of matter and feedback as a control agent influencing the development of complex systems. A major thrust of his current research and work with Lucid focused on the use of real-time feedback on the environmental performance of buildings as a mechanism for engaging, educating, motivating and empowering communities of building users to conserve resource use. John holds a BA from Oberlin College, an MFS from Yale University, and a PhD from University of Maryland.
Peter Rogers is a founder of Dry Creek Ventures. After receiving a BA from UC Berkeley and an MBA from New York University, Peter spent 25 years in technology investment banking, most of that time with Robertson Stephens and Bear Stearns, where he specialized in computer hardware and software. Peter has extensive research and corporate finance experience, and was a member of the teams that took many leading technology companies public. Peter is a member of the board of directors of the Sonoma Land Trust and the Conservation Strategy Fund.
Peter is a VC investor, advisor, and entrepreneur focused on transformative ideas in buildings, energy, logistics, education, and health. He is currently a Principal at Better Energies, previously serving at EnerNOC as Business Development Manager, California Center for Sustainable Energy, Caterpillar, and Lockheed Martin. Peter holds an MBA from Cornell, an MS in Transportation Technology from UC Davis, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Swarthmore.
John is a green building expert, founder & Head of Technology at HP Energy, founder of E2 Environmental, and owner of John Picard & Associates. He was instrumental in the Greening of the White House initiative (1993), convincing CEO Ray Anderson to make Interface sustainable (1994), and innovating Gap Inc. with the push to online retailing with CEO Don Fisher (1995). John was recently featured on Discovery Channel as a "Green Prophet," and serves as an advisor to Sail Venture Partners.
Will is an investor, advisor, and entrepreneur. Will is the founder of OnRamp Capital, an early stage innovation engine. He is also a senior advisor to Prelude Ventures, Honest Buildings, and other startups. Will was previously a Partner at Mohr Davidow Ventures and has also worked for GE Energy, X/seed Capital, and REAP. Will is on the advisory boards for NREL, the California Energy Commission's Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program, and the Berkeley Energy & Climate Institute. Will has been a leader in spurring investment in critical sectors and has testified 5 times before the US Congress on catalyzing early stage investment. Will received his AB magna cum laude from Harvard University and earned a MBA and MS in Energy & Resources from the University of California at Berkeley.
Sam has 20+ years experience creating and commercializing game-changing software products in high tech and green tech. He is currently CEO at Lavante Inc., a leader in cloud-based supplier management software serving Fortune 1000 corporations. He was GM and then interim CEO at innovative smart grid software leader, eMeter (acquired by Siemens) and Chief Marketing Officer for Redwood Systems, a pioneer in DC-powered LED lighting controls and building intelligence (acquired by CommScope). Sam was GM for a $500m portfolio of online subscription businesses at Microsoft. At Intuit, prior to its IPO, Sam conceived of and brought to market the leading small business accounting package, QuickBooks. Sam holds a BA magna cum laude from Harvard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Tom Geer is Lucid’s Chief Architect and Director of Engineering. He is an industry veteran, having designed large distributed systems for Warner Music, Visa, US Search, and Sodahead, a social networking site with 3 million users. Tom has been responsible for the development and management of highly sophisticated engineering teams that were engaged in all aspects of the software life cycle.
Kevin is Lucid's SVP of Sales. He has served in sales leadership roles in technology and energy management for 10 years. Kevin was responsible for West coast sales at Retroficiency, a Big Data energy analytics company, and previously was a top sales performer at demand response pioneer EnerNOC, helping launch the company’s European headquarters in London, England. Kevin holds an MBA from Boston University Graduate School of Management.
Chris is Lucid's VP of Product and interim Director of Operations. Serving with Lucid for almost 5 years, Chris has led the development and refinement of Lucid's diverse portfolio of integration approaches with building automation and metering systems. His recent work has been focused on managing product development, guiding BuildingOS from concept to release. He manages Lucid's Client Services group, providing implementation and support for BuildingOS and Building Dashboard customers. Chris holds a BA in Philosophy from Oberlin College.
Jim Kim is a Founder and Managing Partner at Formation 8, leading its diversified technology investment strategy. He currently serves on the boards of Context Relevant, Leeo, Refactored Materials, Taxon, and Utilidata. Prior to Formation 8, Jim was a General Partner at Khosla Ventures, where he led seed investments in companies like Varentec, Arcanum, and Avogy, and later-stage investments in companies like Ciris Energy. Prior to Khosla Ventures, Jim joined CMEA Capital as a Senior Partner in the Energy & Materials practice. Jim began his career with GE Structured Finance, and subsequently moved to GE's Energy Financial Services to help expand GE's portfolio to $15B in energy assets. As a founding partner of the Energy Technology Ventures group, Jim invested in China High Speed Transmission (HKG:658), A123Systems, ComScore (SCOR), Danger (acquired by MSFT) and several later-stage companies across diverse technology sectors. Jim received undergraduate degrees in Computer Science & Electrical Engineering and Political Science from MIT, where he also founded a venture-backed Internet infrastructure start-up. He holds an M.B.A. and an Masters in Quantitative Data Analysis from Columbia University.
Han Shen joined Formation 8 in 2012, where he focuses on Diversified Tech investments. Before joining Formation 8, Han worked at VantagePoint Capital Partners where he invested in early- and growth-stage companies. He has consulted on investments for several top venture firms in Silicon Valley and worked with start-ups on growth strategy, manufacturing scale-up, capital formation, fund raising and team build-out. Prior to VantagePoint, Han started his career as Senior Scientist at the Department of Emerging Technologies of Rohm and Haas Company, where he was credited as inventor of four U.S. patents and key contributor to multiple winning grant proposals. Han chaired the Presidential Program at the American Chemical Society and the Rohm and Haas Technical Community Organization to promote collaboration and innovation. Han earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Nanjing University, an M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago, and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
